"An essential for anyone in the field." - Thomas R. Talbot, Chief Hospital Epidemiologist, Vanderbilt University Medical Center

SHEA/IDSA Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections in Acute Care Hospitals

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) jointly published the Compendium to provide science-based and practical strategies to help prevent the spread of six common HAIs:

Three additional healthcare organizations also collaborated on the strategies to ensure widespread dissemination and successful implementation: the American Hospital Association (AHA); Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC); and The Joint Commission, which accredits and certifies more than 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the U.S.

Patient Guides on Healthcare-Associated Infections

In addition, the SHEA Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Committee authored patient guides for each of the six infections addressed in the Compendium, collaborating with CDC and the organizational partners. The guides identify strategies that hospitals and patients and family members can all take to prevent infections.

21st Annual Scientific Meeting of SHEA

The Annual Scientific Meeting of SHEA is the junction of current research, evidence, and cutting-edge advances in healthcare epidemiology and infection prevention. A forum for the healthcare professionals involved in prevention of healthcare-associated infections and other adverse events, SHEA 2011 is built around providing depth of understanding, application of evidence, and opportunity for new insight in the science of infection prevention.
