Important Note: SHEA Membership runs on the calendar year. Individuals who apply for membership after July 1, 2010 will begin receiving their journals and other member benefits beginning January 1, 2011.

Membership Categories
Member
Members have full voting rights and are encouraged to serve on SHEA committees and hold office.
- Interest in healthcare epidemiology, patient safety, infection prevention
- Advanced degree in a healthcare field (e.g. doctorate or masters) or specialized training in infection control or epidemiology (e.g. SHEA/CDC Training Course or CIC)
Domestic: $175 • International: $240 • Developing Country*: $60 (e-Journal only)
Emeritus Member
Emeritus Members/Fellows do not have voting rights and may serve on SHEA committees, but may not serve on the SHEA Board.
- 65 years or older; or
- Retired from the active practice of healthcare epidemiology; or
- Experienced disability resulting in cessation of professional activities

Member-in-Training
Individuals are eligible to join SHEA as Members-in-Training when they enter a postdoctoral program in a field related to healthcare epidemiology.
Members-in-Training do not have voting rights and may not serve on the SHEA Board.
Domestic: $95 • International: $130 • Developing Country*: $60 (e-Journal only)
Associate Member
Associate Members do not have voting rights and may not serve on the SHEA Board.
- Professional interest in healthcare epidemiology, but not qualified for membership through other categories (Member, Fellow, Emeritus, Member-in-Training, Corporate)
Domestic: $115 • International: $180 • Developing Country*: $60 (e-Journal only)
Corporate Member
Corporate Members do not have voting rights and may not serve on the SHEA Board.
- Employed in a business or industry related to the field of healthcare with an interest in healthcare epidemiology. Individuals employed by a corporate entity who also qualify as Members should apply under the Corporate Member category.

Volunteer Application
SHEA encourages members to submit applications to serve on SHEA committees.
SHEA accepts volunteer applications on a rolling basis, although applications are considered by committee chairs only in November. You will be notified in December if you are selected. Two positions on average are available year-to-year for each committee. Your application will be kept on file for 5 years and will be reconsidered each year. Committee members generally serve three year terms.
