- 1 Vice President role
- 2 Counselor roles
Vice-President (this is a 4-year commitment as VP, President-Elect, President, and Past-President) Past board experience is required. Average Time Commitment including preparation time: 5 hours a month
- Attend and actively participate in 3 Board face-to-face meetings per year
- Actively participate in up to 9 Board conference calls per year
- Serve on the Executive Committee
- Serve as liaison to committees as appointed
- Vote on motions made by the Board
- Perform other duties as directed by the Board in the absence of the President and President-Elect
- Receive orientation from President/President-Elect
- Perform duties as delegated by President
- Ensure that goals of assigned committees are aligned with the Board’s strategic plan
- Participate in carrying out goals of strategic plan
- Participate in fundraising activities as assigned
President-Elect (1 year) Average Time Commitment including preparation time: 5 hours a month
- Attend and actively participate in 3 Board face-to-face meetings per year
- Actively participate in up to 9 Board conference calls per year
- Serve on the Executive Committee
- Serve as liaison to committees as appointed
- Vote on motions made by the Board
- Perform other duties as directed by the Board in the absence of the President

- Provide orientation to the Vice-President
- Perform duties as delegated by President
- Ensure that goals of assigned committees are aligned with the Board’s strategic plan
- Participate in carrying out goals of strategic plan
- Participate in fundraising activities as assigned
President (1 year) Average Time Commitment including preparation time: 8 hours a week
- Attend and actively participate in 3 Board face-to-face meetings per year
- Actively participate in up to 9 Board conference calls per year
- Chair and actively participate in Executive Committee conference calls
- Vote on motions made by the Board
- Provide orientation to the President-Elect
- Serve as primary spokesperson for the Society for media and policy, or designate such spokesperson(s)
- Identify and appoint a Nominating Committee
- Work with Standing Committee chairs to appoint committee members
- Provide active feedback and consultation to SHEA Executive Director
- Oversee annual evaluation of SHEA Executive Director
- Ensure that goals of assigned committees are aligned with the Board’s strategic plan
- Participate in carrying out goals of strategic plan
- Participate in fundraising activities as assigned
Immediate Past President/Past President Average Time Commitment including preparation time: 3 hours a week
- Attend and actively participate in 3 Board face-to-face meetings per year
- Actively participate in up to 9 Board conference calls per year
- Serve as liaison to committees as appointed
- Vote on motions made by the Board
- Participate as vital part of the Board leadership
- Serve on the Executive Committee
- Provide follow-up reports on ongoing activities
- Serve on Nominations Committee
- Serve as the SHEA liaison to the IDSA Board
- Perform duties as delegated by President
- Ensure that goals of assigned committees are aligned with the Board’s strategic plan
- Participate in carrying out goals of strategic plan
- Participate in fundraising activities as assigned
Councilor and International Councilor (2-year term) Average Time Commitment including preparation time: 5 hours a month
- Attend and actively participate in 3 Board face-to-face meetings per year
- Actively participate in up to 9 Board conference calls per year
- Serve as liaison to committees as appointed
- Vote on motions passed by the Board
- Provide healthcare epidemiology perspective to inform Board decisions
- Perform duties as delegated by President
- Ensure that goals of assigned committees are aligned with the Board’s strategic plan
- Participate in carrying out goals of strategic plan
- Participate in fundraising activities as assigned
