Dr. Vikas Manchanda received his clinical microbiology training at University College of Medical Sciences New Delhi, India. Currently, he is Head of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya (CNBC) and associated Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, India. He is heading surveillance and infection control division at CNBC and is secretary of Hospital Infection control committee. He is also head of Quality Management Division and has been instrumental in getting his hospital NABH accredited, making it first public sector hospital in country to achieve this milestone.

Currently he is closely working with National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), ICMR on bacterial meningitis project in India and Alliance of Surveillance for Invasive Pnemococcal Disease (ASIP). He is also supporting implementing Hospital infection control programs for various government hospitals and also working in designing antimicrobial stewardship program for these hospitals. He has been consultant to UNICEF in improving infection control practices during labour and delivery at Rajasthan and Odisha, India.

Dr. Manchanda was International Ambassador for SHEA in year 2011. Currently, he is co-vice chair of SHEA External affairs committee.

He is the first one to establish NDM-1 gene detection through real time PCR in clinical bacterial isolates and his research interests include antimicrobial resistance, Healthcare-associated infections and pediatric infectious diseases. Dr. Manchanda has over two dozen publications in peer reviewed journals and has been author of several book chapters on antimicrobial resistance with WHO and others.

He is also member of technical committee of NABH and reviews infection control practices and nation-wide data of accredited hospitals. He is also member of task force helping developing minimum standards for diagnostic laboratories with Govt of India. He is Assistant Editor for Journal of Patient Safety and Infection Control (official publication of Hospital Infection Society of India, HISI) and “Jeevanu Times”.
