Walter C. Hellinger, MD

Walter C. Hellinger, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He has served as the hospital epidemiologist and chair of infection prevention and control at Mayo Clinic in Florida, since 1991, where he has also served as the co-director of the antibiotic stewardship program since 1997.

His primary professional responsibility has been clinical infectious disease consultative care. He is currently chair of the Division of Infectious Disease at Mayo Clinic in Florida. Dr. Hellinger has recently been appointed to serve as a non-voting liaison to the SHEA Board of Trustees representing community healthcare epidemiologists starting in January 2016.
