COVID-19 Update | October 16, 2020
Important Highlights
SHEA posted two new, time-sensitive resources this week:
  • A "voting safely" video intended for all audiences to reassure and provide simple guidance for US voters. It is less than 2 minutes, written by SHEA leaders and Board members, and professionally animated and produced. Feel free to disseminate it widely.

  • A succinct COVID-19 vaccine planning statement to help you work with your public health office on anticipated COVID-19 vaccine administration to healthcare personnel (HCP). The statement was approved by the SHEA Board and authored by experts engaged with NHSN and ACIP. It addresses:
    • Background on:
      • FDA approval
      • Short and long-term safety evaluation
      • Distribution and storage
      • Tracking and reporting
      • Logistics
    • Recommendations for:
      • Policies for HCP vaccination (FDA EUA vs. full licensure)
      • Training for staff and steps of administration
      • Safety monitoring
      • Prioritization, broken into Phase 1a and Phase 1b, and how to ensure healthcare equity in planning and implementation
      • Managing vaccine hesitancy
      • Maintaining infection prevention precautions despite vaccination status
