COVID-19 Update | November 13, 2020
Important Highlights
Common Investigation Protocol for Investigating Suspected SARS-CoV-2 Reinfection
CDC has released Common Investigation Protocol for Investigating Suspected SARS-CoV-2 Reinfection.   There is currently no widely accepted definition of what constitutes SARS-CoV-2 reinfection and the reports use different testing methods, making reinfection diagnoses difficult. This protocol is designed to support a common public health investigation into suspected SARS-CoV-2 reinfection cases across jurisdictions. Confirming SARS-CoV-2 reinfection requires advanced laboratory diagnostic support built upon advanced planning to implement this protocol, or a locally adapted version, with referral of specimens to supporting laboratory networks.

COVID-19 Real Time Learning Network
Check out the COVID-19 Real Time Learning Network and Twitter account. The COVID-19 Real Time Learning Network is a CDC-funded partnership with the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) to deliver rapid and up-to-date curated literature and clinical guidance from various subspecialties to frontline healthcare providers. SHEA is pleased to have representation on this and contribute to this effort.

ASPR Resources for investigational neutralizing antibody bamlanivimab
Officials from the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) announced earlier this week the availability of bamlanivimab which is now authorized under an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in non-hospitalized adults and pediatric patients 12 years and older weighing more than 88 pounds (40 kg) with a positive COVID-19 test, who are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or hospitalization. ASPR has published resources for bamlanivimab which can be found here, here and here. Officials acknowledge the initial roll out of bamlanivimab will encounter logistical challenges with distribution and outpatient administration. ASPR is working with a variety of stakeholder organizations in an effort to identify longer-term solutions. SHEA members are encouraged to send their concerns and questions to Lynne Batshon.
